Fire in Anchorage, June 5, 2007
Today there was a 2 alarm fire in Anchorage that took over five hours to put out. I was watching the fire rage for several hours and got some great shots, which are below.
Yes, well there isn't any snow in Anchorage in the summer. There is still snow on the Chugach Mountains that surround Anchorage, and definitely snow in surrounding mountain areas with higher elevations.
Yes, we here in the lower 48 had this mistaken impression that it snowed year-round there but know better now. We visited there a couple of weeks ago on our way to Dinali from Seward. Had a raindeer hot dog from a street vendor downtown. It wasn't bad. It tasted just like a regular hot dog.
